This new station logo was painted on this wall of a building near Yankee Stadium in The Bronx New York City in 1970 – you can read about it on Page 128 of “RADIO … My Love, My Passion!”
Signing on in November of 1961, it was one of America’s first FM Stereo stations, and the first in the Nation’s Capital. I was its first and only full-time employee. This part of my journey is told in Chapter 4!
Another brand-new sign on, beginning in 1963 WDVR quickly became one of the nation’s earliest great FM success stories. You’ll find its story in Chapters 5 and 6 with a Part Two in Chapter 8.
I was called “courageous” for jumping into this situation. While it wasn’t really funny at the time, you’ll find a lot of humor here, beginning on Page 74. While WBCN, like WHFS, are legendary call letters in radio history … in both cases, that came after I had departed.
Unlike the earlier Boston fiasco, WJIB was another new station, which took off like a cannonball fired in Boston Harbor nearly two centuries earlier. Read about this brief part of my journey beginning on Page 81.
My first paying job in radio beginning in early 1956, a part-time position with a station which was more like a radio museum of the 1930’s rather than one living in the 1950’s. I share this experience in Chapter 2.
There are times when, without careful thought, one allows their emotions to take over rather than stepping back and taking time to use good judgment – but there’s usually a lesson to learn from such actions. This part of my story begins on Page 168!
